History
Approximately 40 years ago the foresight and initiative of past community and city leaders provided the opportunity to develop a recreational complex including the golf course, swimming pool, and tennis courts of the Calvert City Country Club. While the city did not desire to be in the business of operating a golf course and the other facilities, the city helped achieve the objectives by cooperating in the establishment of the Calvert City Country Club. The facilities have served the community and the area continuously since that time.
The Calvert City Country Club was established as a non-stock, non-profit corporation and presently some 450 families from the city, and the surrounding area are members. In addition to the members utilizing the facilities, The golf course is operated as a public facility open to all at a very reasonable charge. It serves as the home course for the Marshall County High School golf team and is utilized by nearly all of the industrial plants in the Calvert City area on a regular basis. It is one of the most desired courses to hold competitive events for local and regional tournaments. Many members of our community have developed their golf skills while participating in wholesome recreation. The swimming pool likewise provides a forum for local swimmers, both members and non-members to swim competitively on the Calvert City Swim Team. The availability of the complex has certainly enhanced the city's environment for economic development.
The club is probably one of the least expensive, if not the least in the state for the quality of the facilities. There is a lengthy waiting list for membership and the initiation fee of $400 & $80 monthly dues is very affordable for our citizens. The dues have remained low by careful planning and careful management of the available funds. In addition there is a large amount of volunteer labor which supports the regular staff.
